Conductor & composer
Rolf Gupta has held positions such as Chief-conductor and artistic director for the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony orchestra and The Nordic Youth Orchestra. At present he mainly works as a freelance conductor and composer.He has also led several festivals including MAGMA2002Berlin and The international church music festival in Kristiansand.
Gupta has received several prizes and awards including the Norwegian Grammy Award and the Norwegian Critics Award. In 2012 one of his many recordings was nominated for the Gramophone Awards. As a freelancer he works internationally both as a symphony- and opera conductor.
His works have been performed by orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Danish Radio Orchestra. in addition to his professorship at the UiA, he has been invited to each at several institutions such as The Norwegian Academy of Music, The Royal Danish Conservatory, the Grieg Academy and Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. He received his education in Helsinki, Oslo and Amsterdam.
