Background and experience
I am a PhD research fellow in Drama and Theatre at the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Agder (UiA), as well as a performing musician and stage artist. I have prior experience as a university lecturer at UiA, as well as a drama and music teacher at the upper secondary school level, and as an instrumental instructor at cultural schools. My work centers on performative approaches to drama pedagogy and research practices, as well as interdisciplinary artistic practices.
In my PhD project, my aim is to investigate how a performative approach to drama education and Norway’s new national curriculum reform, Kunnskapsløftet (LK20), opens possibilities to re-think drama educational practices in upper secondary education. The project addresses drama educators in secondary schools and aims to contribute new insights to teaching practices in drama at this level.
The research project will involve practical teaching sessions with upper secondary students to explore how a performative approach to LK20 might facilitate a re-examination of what curricula, subjects, and pedagogy in drama can do and become, rather than focusing on what they are. The project draws on a posthumanist orientation, where learning and knowledge emerge through the entanglements of humans, materialities, nature and situation.
I am interested in exploring how such a shift might open up new ways of practicing drama pedagogy, particularly in relation to pedagogy as an artistic, creative, and exploratory practice. My preliminary research question is: How can a performative approach to drama education and the new national curriculum (LK20) provide opportunities to rethink the pedagogical practices of drama in upper secondary education?
