Background and experience

BA (Dunelm) MA PhD (Londinium) PGCLTHE FHEA FRHistS

David Redvaldsen began teaching at the University of Agder in 2019. Before joining the Department of Sociology and Social Work, he held temporary positions at Oxford Brookes University (2016-2018), the University of Winchester (2017), Morley College (2012-2013), University College London (2011-2012, 2014-2019), the University of Oslo (2009) and Finnmark University College (2008-2011).

Redvaldsen is an historian of Britain since 1815 and Norway since 1814. His master's degree in modern history undertaken at University College London was geared towards historical theory, which made him familiar with many classic sociological thinkers. He studied for a teaching certificate in higher education at the same institution and completed the first year of the equivalent qualification at the University of Agder.

He won the Anglo-Norse Society's Dame Gillian Brown Postgraduate Scholarship in 2003 and, jointly, the Emile Lousse Prize of the International Commission for the History of Representative and Parliamentary Institution in 2014.
