Quality development and quality assurance of applications

Adopted by the University Research Committee on 29 January 2020.

In order to submit applications with the best possible quality and ensure the support of projects at the departments, UiA has adopted quality assurance routines for applications for external funding.

The target group for these quality routines is the academic staff who will prepare the application, as well as advisers who participate in the process. These routines stem from experience, which shows that the development of a project description and application requires a thorough process in which sufficient time is particularly necessary. The description here is thus intended to support the scientific process which motivates researchers, and to employ it to start the development of projects early through embedded support at the departments and an early integration of administrative support.

The purpose of using the routines is to ensure the support of projects, raise the quality of applications, and increase the possibility of being awarded. The procedures are intended to be a tool for use throughout the application phase as a guideline for administrative tasks and milestones in the application process. The use of relevant support services is encouraged, and these services will contribute on a first-come, first-served basis. Enquiries that do not meet the deadline will be able to receive support if there is capacity. It is important to note that if a project is not registered and receiving administrative support according to the routine description, there will be a risk that the application will not be submitted.

The head of department's role in the process is particularly important in relation to a) motivating academic staff to start the process and to start it early, and b) assessing an application in relation to capacity and resource needs.
