Pay policy and pay negotiations

The university’s pay policy is developed in collaboration between the employer and the trade union representatives and applies to all employees.

The local pay policy, along with its criteria, shall:

  • Support and contribute to the achievement of UiA’s plans, goals, strategies and personnel policy.
  • Encourage employees to pursue competence development and to take responsibility.

The parties agree on how the wage system should be utilised within the organisation and which measures are appropriate.

Pay policy principles

The wages and the pay policy are to be based on facts and knowledge.

  • All employees shall have equal opportunities for salary progression.
  • The pay policy shall contribute to competitive compensation to attract and retain employees with desired competence and qualifications.
  • The individual employee’s pay grade and salary shall be aligned with tasks, responsibilities and competence requirements, as well as recognise and reward achievements and efforts.
  • Efforts shall be made to actively address any gender-related pay differences.

Salary placement and salary progression – measures

There are five factors that are relevant for determining and modifying employee’s salaries:

  1. Central negotiations for the public sector
  2. Determining salary when announcing vacancies
