Medical certificate

If your sickness lasts longer than the maximum days allowed for self-certified absence (8 days), you must submit a medical certificate.

The medical certificate is issued by your physician or others with the authority of issuing medical certificates, such as a chiropractor or a manual therapist.

You must submit the medical certificate digitally. If this is not possible, UiA will accept a medical certificate on paper.

How to submit a digital medical certificate

After seeing your physician and being granted sick leave, you will receive an SMS/e-mail with a link to your digital medical certificate.

You must log in to Ditt NAV > Ditt sykefravær (nav.no) with your electronic ID and send the medical certificate digitally to your employer/immediate superior immediately within 14 days.

When the sick leave period is over, you will receive a new notice from NAV. You must then log in to Ditt NAV > Ditt sykefravær (nav.no) again and fill out an application for sickness benefits and send it to your employer.

When submitting a digital medical certificate, absence due to illness is registered automatically in SAP, and you do not need to register it in DFØ.

Did you recover sooner than expected?

If you become healthy again prior to the end of your sick leave period, or if you work more than the percentage of your graded medical certificate, you can easily adjust this. You can do this in the application for sickness benefits which you receive from NAV. State the number of hours you have worked during the period. NAV can then adjust the amount of sickness benefits according to this information, so the payments become correct.

Did you get a new manager?

If you change managers during your sick leave, it is important to inform NAV about this. You can do so when you receive your digital sick note, right after visiting your doctor. At that point, you will be asked to confirm if [XX] is your current manager. If you answer "no," NAV will send a new notification to us, and we will update the correct manager in the system.

How to submit a medical certificate on paper

After seeing your doctor and being granted sick leave, the paper-based medical certificate consists of four parts:

  • Part A is NAV’s original copy of the medical certificate and your doctor will send it directly to NAV.
  • Part B is the employee’s copy of the medical certificate. You will keep this part.
  • Part C is the employer's copy of the medical certificate.
  • Part D is the claim for sickness benefits.

You must submit the medical certificate, part C, immediately to your immediate superior and within 14 days.

You must submit the claim for sickness benefits, part D, immediately to your immediate superior after the absence period has ended. The personal health statement in the claim must be completely filled out and signed before submitting it.

If you have been granted sick leave by a doctor abroad, you must, in addition to a medical certificate, submit a personal health statement for foreign medical certificates - NAV 08-09.06 (nav.no) so that UiA can apply for a refund of sickness benefits from NAV. Note: This applies only to countries within the EU/EEA.

If you get ill outside of Europe, you will not be entitled to salary during illness. However, if you have been on a holiday, you may be entitled to a replacement holiday.
