Self-certified sick leave is registered in DFØ online or via the DFØ app.
NB: Hourly-paid employees must submit a self-certification manually to their immediate manager, either on paper or as an email attachment. Use the attached template “Self-certification for hourly-paid employees". Remember to also submit timesheets.
You may use self-certified sick leave:
- When you have worked at UiA for at least two months.
- When you are absent from work for at least one full day.
- For up to 8 working days in a row within a 16-calendar-day period.
- For a total of 24 calendar days within a 12-month period.
You may not use self-certified sick leave:
- Before you have worked at least 16 calendar days after using 8 self-certified days.
- Before you have worked at least 1 day after an absence covered by a medical certificate of less than 16 calendar days.
- Before you have worked at least 16 calendar days after an absence of more than 16 calendar days.
- Before you have worked at least 1 month after parental leave.
- Before you have worked at least 2 months after other types of leave.
- While you are on unpaid leave.
- While you are taking holiday.
- If you are on graded sick leave or receiving AAP (work assessment allowance).
If the absence is work-related: In some cases the cause of your illness may be related to conditions at work. If this is the case, tick “work-related” on the self-certification form.
If the absence is work-related, your manager will call you in for a meeting to discuss possible adjustments.
If misuse is suspected
The employer may decide to withdraw an employee’s right to use self-certified sick leave when there are reasonable grounds to believe the scheme is being misused. Before such a decision is made, the employee shall be given an opportunity to comment. If the right is withdrawn, the employee must be informed that at the next sick leave they must present a medical certificate from the first whole day of absence.
The employer may also withdraw the right to use self-certified sick leave when the employee has used at least 24 self-certified days within 12 months.
