Must you bring your car to campus?

There is significant pressure on parking spaces at UiA, especially at Campus Kristiansand. Employees and students are urged to consider other modes of transport whenever possible.

Parking challenges at UiA are not new, but on Campus Kristiansand, there has been an increasing burden since the new year, regardless of the snowy weather.

“With the recent cold and snow, many have been relying on their cars as cozy ‘warm jackets’. However, there’s simply not enough space for all these ‘big jackets.’ We ask that those who can, consider alternative modes of transportation to ensure those who really need to drive can find a spot,” says Aanon Bernt Winge Grimnes, who heads the estates section in the division of finance and campus management.

We have also noticed an increase in the usage of the parking lot at Oddernes Church when there is competition for spaces on campus. This is causing significant challenges for events such as funerals.

No more parking spaces, new measures must be considered

There are currently a total of 1022 parking spots on Campus Kristiansand, in addition to a few reserved for disabled parking and UiA service vehicles.

“I have received numerous inquiries about the parking challenges. We need to explore various measures to reduce number of cars on campus, including the possibility of raising parking fees,” says University Director Seunn Smith-Tønnessen. However, there are more options for bike parking, and UiA regularly offers great deals and arrangements for students and staff who choose to cycle.

Additionally, the bus stop at Campus Kristiansand is one of the best in Agder, offering multiple routes and options both locally and regionally.

Remember to pay

Many people do not pay the parking fee for the employee parking lot. Just a reminder that parking fees for employees have been in effect since 1 June 2023.
