Project development support for external funding – PUS

Funding for Project Development Support (PUS funds) may cover costs related to the development of applications for external funding, including both research and educational project applications. Applications for PUS funds must be submitted by research advisers or contact persons for educational projects at the faculties.

What can be applied for?

PUS funds may be used to cover both internal and external costs related to developing applications for external fundings, for example:

  • Staff time compensation
  • Travel
  • Academic meetings
  • Networking

PUS funds cannot be used for conference participation or litterature.

Projects aimed at the Research Council of Norway, the EU programs outside Horizon Europe, HK-dir andother strategically important funding sources will be prioritized.

How much can be applied for?

Applications for- and allocation of PUS funds will depend on the type of funding source and the type of application. An overview of funding rates and funding sources is provided below.

The allocation amounts under the standard PUS rates are indicative and may differ between applications. Allocation of PUS funding is subject to the availability of funds in the budget. The total PUS budget for 2026 is limited to NOK 3 million.

Education: National funding sources

  • Up to NOK 35 000 for project applications managed by national directorates (e.g. HK-dir, NORAD, etc.).
  • Up to NOK 20 000 for smaller-scale project applications (e.g. Nordplus network applications, regional support with project value below NOK 1 million, etc.).

No support is provided for Erasmus+ KA1 applications, or applications for centralised Erasmus+ actions (these are submitted directly to HK-dir).

Support is not provided for partner applications, only for applications where UiA is project leader.

Read more at UiA's web page about external funding for education projects.

Allocations to other EU programmes may be considered. These must be clarified with the Research and Innovation Division outside of the automatic allocation system before submitting a PUS application.

Horizon Europe (2026–2027)

There are no additional PES funds available for 2026 and 2027. Funding for project support for Horizon Europe applications in 2026–27 will therefore be covered by PUS funds. However, we refer you to the PES webpage for more details on PES-funding rates and how to apply.

How to apply

Researchers can no longer submit applications for PUS funds themselves. Applications must now be submitted by the research adviser or the contact person for educational projects at each faculty.

Steps:

  1. The researcher contacts the research adviser or contact person for educational project applications at their faculty.
  2. The research adviser or educational project contact submits the application for PUS funds. The PUS application is submitted after the application for external funding has been submitted. It is required that the head of department or dean is informed of and has approved the application.

Disbursement of funds

Once the PUS application has been processed by the Research and Innovation Division, funds are allocated to the faculty. The faculty is responsible for internal cost transfer and correct accounting.
