In the academic year 2026/2027, two courses will be offered:
- Basiskurs i universitetspedagogikk 2026/27 (Course 1, taught in Norwegian)
- Basis course in university pedagogy 2026/27 (Course 2, taught in English)

Education
University pedagogy enhances the teaching and learning environment at the university by 1) basing it on research about teaching and how to support it, 2) by creating educational innovations, 3) by research on teaching and learning and 3) by evaluating educational activities in a research-based manner.
The educational mission is carried out in collaboration with the units at the university. The teachers in University Pedagogy continuously develop their teaching and development skills together with the research group in University Pedagogy.
Basis course in university pedagogy
The basis course in university pedagogy is planned based on ‘Regulations on appointment and promotion in teaching and research positions’ and ‘National guidelines for educational competence in higher education’.
The target group for the course is in the first place employees who have teaching or supervision as part of their responsibilities at UiA. Each course accommodates 25 participants. Courses are given in Norwegian and English. When applying for a place on the course, the applicant's situation and the head of department's recommendation are taken into account.
The course amounts to 200 working hours (corresponds to ca. 8 ECTS).
The course is made up of 5 mandatory seminars and 1 mandatory elective module. Estimated distribution of working time:
- Individual work before/after the sessions/elective modules/work requirements (128 h)
- Participation in sessions (72 h)
To be approved for the course, it is assumed that the participant:
- actively participates in the course,
- takes initiatives and contributes with questions and comments,
- submits assignments before deadline and
- gets all assignments approved (grading rule: approved - not approved).

Teachers and researchers in university pedagogy
The field of University Pedagogy is administratively located at UiA PULS (Centre of Teaching and Learning) and collaborates with various units at the university. The lecturers in university pedagogy have interdisciplinary research expertise in learning and teaching in higher education.
