Ordinary retirement can be achieved by transitioning to a Contractual Early Retirement Pension (AFP) or an Old Age Pension.
Contractual Early Retirement Pension (AFP)
AFP in the public sector has two different sets of regulations. The scheme is either an early retirement pension from age 62 to 67, or a lifelong payment that you can receive alongside the old age pension. Which AFP you are eligible for depends on your date of birth.

AFP for Those Born in 1962 or Earlier
You must submit a written resignation for your position or part of your position at least 3 months before the transition. Indicate that the basis for the resignation is the transition to AFP. The transition to the pension must occur from the first day of the month.
Human Resources will submit an electronic pension notification to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. You will receive a copy of the submitted pension notification.
The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will then assess whether the conditions for the pension are met and forward the assessment to NAV.
You will receive a notification (email with a link to the form) from NAV to complete and submit the 'Information Form for AFP'.
AFP for Those Born in 1963 or Later
You can choose when to start receiving lifelong AFP from the age of 62. You can continue working without any reduction in your pension.
You must apply yourself to receive lifelong AFP from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). SPK does not require any notification from your employer.
You apply for the pension by logging in with Bank-ID on 'My Page' at spk.no
Retirement pension
Your retirement pension is a combination of the National Insurance Scheme (NAV), occupational pension, and personal savings. Occupational pension is money saved for you by your employers. The regulations for public occupational pension differ depending on your date of birth.
