Threat handling at UiA

This page provides guidance for employees and managers on how to handle threats. Here you will find information about UiA's procedures for threat management, as well as available support and assistance.

Unfortunately, UiA's employees occasionally experience threats due to their work at the university. This can apply to researchers, frontline staff, and others. UiA takes all such threats seriously.

UiA assumes that managers follow up with their employees in accordance with good personnel management practices, especially in situations where employees are exposed to threats.

  1. If you are in immediate danger, call 112. If you believe you are in immediate danger, get to a safe place and notify the police.
  2. Notify your immediate supervisor. Inform your immediate supervisor as soon as possible. It may be necessary to implement immediate measures at the workplace. If you cannot reach your supervisor, escalate to the next level or contact UiA emergency services: 38142220 / beredskap@uia.no.
  3. Need for immediate removal – procedure for handling aggressive students.
  4. Inform the operational crisis management team about the incident: 38142220. It is important to inform crisis management even if the police have been notified.
  5. Fill out the threat reporting form. Start evidence preservation and documentation as early as possible. Use the Threat Reception Form as a starting point. The safety manager can be contacted for advice.
  6. Gather as much information as possible about the threat. To assess the threat and potentially file a report, the most documentation possible must be available. Use the form as a starting point. Do not delete emails and messages, take screenshots or photograph the screen with your phone. Keep physical evidence.
  7. In consultation with your manager, assess and implement immediate individual security measures. In the case of serious threats, it may be necessary to implement certain security measures immediately after a threat. These may be necessary until the situation is clarified. The safety manager can assist with assessments and measures.
  8. In consultation with your manager, schedule a follow-up meeting with the Occupational Health Service (BHT). Such follow-up meetings with BHT are mandatory. This is part of UiA's follow-up of serious incidents.
  9. In consultation with your manager, develop a plan for following up on the incident. The follow-up includes both the security, legal, and psychosocial aspects.
  10. Reporting the case. In some cases, UiA as the employer can report the matter to the police. In other cases, the individual must do this themselves. The safety manager has delegated authority from the University Director to file reports on behalf of UiA and can also assist employees with reports.
