Within eight weeks: Duty to participate in activities

As early as possible, and no later than 8 weeks, the employee on sick leave should attempt to engage in work-related activities. The follow-up plan should specify the planned activities.

This does not apply if medical reasons clearly prevent the activities, or if it is not possible to carry out work-related activities in the workplace.

If the employee cannot engage in work-related activities within 8 weeks, the doctor must provide a statement to NAV at that point. For the sick leave to be extended, the doctor must document that there are medical reasons for the lack of activity and that inactivity is a necessary part of the treatment.

If there are no medical reasons for the lack of activity, NAV will stop the payment of sick pay. A decision regarding this will be sent to the employee. If the employer is paying the sick pay, the employee must inform the employer as soon as possible about the decision.

The immediate supervisor should verify whether the conditions for entitlement to sick pay are still met at the 8-week point.

Your responsibilities as an employee:

Contribute to finding solutions that will help you return to work as quickly as possible.

Be willing to do other suitable or adjusted work if this can help you return to work sooner.

Participate in the creation and implementation of the follow-up plan.
