The employer's duty to follow-up ends at this point, but the general duty for measures and accommodations will still apply as long as the employment relationship continues.
You must inform the employer about your medical situation (not health details, but the impact on your role) when requested, and continue to document your absence with sick notes and any decisions from NAV.
The immediate supervisor will ensure regular phone contact and will call for meetings if needed, as long as the employment relationship is maintained.
If you are over 67 years old, you will not be granted AAP from NAV. Instead, you have the right to pension, which you must apply for yourself. Remember that SPK has up to 3 months of processing time.
What should I remember?
- When you have been on sick leave for one year, the right to sick pay ends.
- You must apply for other benefits if you need to reduce your working hours after one year.
- You may be entitled to disability pension from the State Pension Fund and possibly work assessment allowance (AAP) from NAV.
- During this period, you must apply for leave from your position at UiA.
Work assessment allowance from NAV
If your degree of disability is at least 50%, you must apply to NAV for work assessment allowance (AAP). You can receive AAP while you are:
- under active treatment
- undergoing work-related measures
- in work trials (gradual return to work after illness)
- under follow-up by NAV after treatment and measures have been attempted
Contact your doctor to send an application for AAP (NAV 11-13.05) to NAV. To receive AAP, you must submit a report card every 14 days.
The work assessment allowance amounts to 66% of your income base.
Please note:
If you are partially working while receiving AAP, you will not have sick pay rights at UiA. You cannot use self-certification or submit a sick note to your employer if you become ill.
Shorter absences should be reported to NAV, which will adjust the AAP for that period.
You will also not start accruing new sick pay rights, even if you are partially back at work.

Disability pension from the State Pension Fund
Temporary disability pension
If you need to reduce your working hours due to illness or injury, you may be entitled to a disability pension from the State Pension Fund.
Disability pensions are usually paid out after one year of sick leave.
Permanent disability pension is granted if it is clear that there is no prospect of improvement in income/working capacity.
Typically, this becomes relevant after one year of sick leave, followed by additional medical treatment and/or work-related measures.
The State Pension Fund can grant disability pensions for all degrees of disability.
If you apply for disability pension with a degree of disability of 50% or more from the State Pension Fund, it is a requirement that you also apply for disability pension or AAP from NAV.
You must apply for disability pension from SPK in consultation with your doctor.
The absence group in the Payroll Section will send a pension notice to SPK with information about the end date of salary and degree of disability.
Processing time at SPK is 3 months from when your application and the notice from your employer are received.
If you are granted disability pension, you will receive salary for the month containing the end date of your salary, as the pension fund always starts its payments from the 1st of the month following salary stoppage.
The period during which you receive disability pension from SPK is pensionable.

Application
Please note:
If you are granted partial disability pension, you will accrue new sick pay rights while you are working.
You can use self-certification and sick leave from the 17th day after transitioning to partial disability pension.
During the accrual period, you may have sick leave within 16 calendar days.

Leave from your position at UiA
When the right to sick pay from NAV ends, you as an employee must apply for unpaid leave from your position at UiA. It is common to be granted leave for up to one year.
After the leave period ends, the employer will assess whether there is grounds for termination.
The employment relationship is considered terminated if the employee has been on sick leave for 24 months and there is still no prospect of improvement in their ability to work.
For more information about leave with and without pay
Welfare leave without pay for up to 12 days can be applied for via DFØ. Beyond that, a written application must be submitted to your nearest supervisor.
