- Employees can apply to transfer vacation days via e-form in DFØ.
- You will find the form under ‘Employment status’ when you are logged in.
- Register the vacation days you have taken so far this year and request the holiday you plan to take later in the year before submitting an e-form for holiday transfer.
Illness and parental leave
Holiday that has not been taken due to illness or parental leave shall be carried over to the next holiday year.
Transfer of holiday
The Holidays Act provides a general right to enter into a written agreement to transfer statutory holiday. It is also possible to agree to transfer contractually agreed holiday. In organisations operating a five-day working week, this effectively means employees may transfer up to 14 days of holiday. Holiday transferred by agreement may only be carried over to the following holiday year.
Each organisation must clarify with the employees’ trade unions how holiday carry-over and advance holiday shall be practised.
Transfer of holiday is carried out via the e-form in DFØ. You will find the relevant form under “Employment.”
Before submitting the e-form for holiday transfer, make sure you have registered all holiday you have taken so far this year and applied for all planned holiday for the remainder of the year.
Holidays taken in advance
Holiday entitlement from the next holiday year may be taken in advance by agreement. In state enterprises, a maximum of 10 days (12 working days) may be taken as advance holiday.
It is not permitted to take more advance holiday than the employee has earned holiday pay for, at the time the advance holiday is taken.
Untaken holiday cannot be paid out
If an employee still has remaining holiday at the start of the new holiday year that cannot be carried over due to illness or parental leave, or by written agreement, the employer has not fulfilled its obligation under the Holidays Act. The law provides that the remaining holiday does not lapse but must be carried over to the next holiday year. This means that the remaining holiday cannot be compensated with pay or otherwise regarded as lost.
