General description and profile of the programme

The Bachelor’s programme in Marketing and Management is a three-year integrated programme with a strong focus on marketing, organisation, and management. In addition, students are introduced to various business and administrative subjects as well as social science research methods.

The first two years of the programme consist of compulsory courses. In the third year of study, students may either choose the 60 ECTS specialisation “HR and Management” or complete the third year with specialisation/ elective courses in the autumn semester, followed by compulsory courses and the bachelor’s thesis in the spring semester.

Students who wish to participate in an exchange programme may do so in the fifth semester and subsequently complete the sixth semester in Kristiansand.

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching methods vary between lectures, seminars, and group work. Throughout the programme, students are encouraged to participate in academic discussions from a critical perspective. Several courses are taught in English.

Assessment methods

Most courses include compulsory coursework (individual or group-based) that must be approved in order to be eligible to sit the examination; see individual course descriptions for details. Most courses have an individual written examination graded using letter grades (A–F), where A is the highest grade and F indicates failure.

Internationalisation

Students are exposed to international dimensions and issues through teaching and course literature. Many lecturers have international backgrounds and are active in international research networks. Several courses are taught in English, and international students attend the School of Business and Law at UiA as exchange students. This contributes to an international learning environment in which most students interact with international peers and actively use English during their studies.

The programme facilitates student exchange in the fifth semester, and students are encouraged to study abroad at one of UiA’s partner institutions. A study period abroad provides opportunities for academic specialisation beyond the course offerings at the School of Business and Law at UiA, as well as exposure to different languages and cultures in an academic context. Many employers value such international experience.

The School of Business and Law at UiA is internationally accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). The accreditation enables collaboration with high-quality institutions worldwide. For further information about exchange opportunities, please refer to the International Office’s webpages.

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies

The Bachelor’s programme is a professionally oriented and interdisciplinary education. Due to the significant inclusion of business-related subjects, graduates are attractive candidates for a wide range of positions in the private sector, particularly within marketing, sales, and management. The programme also provides a solid foundation for starting one’s own business.

The programme qualifies students to apply for admission to several master’s programmes at UiA. It also provides a basis for further studies both nationally and internationally. Please note that additional admission requirements may apply.

Completion of this bachelor’s programme alone does not qualify graduates for admission to the Master

in Business and Economics (Siviløkonom) at UiA. Applicants wishing to pursue this pathway must complete additional coursework. For further information, please contact the programme’s academic adviser.

Qualification awarded

Completion of the three-year programme leads to the degree Bachelor of Marketing and Management.

Student evaluations

Program evaluations are conducted annually in the study council in accordance with chapter 4.2 of the quality system. Prior to the study council meetings, student representatives may gather feedback from fellow students.
