Erasmus+

As an Erasmus student, you can apply for an Erasmus grant in addition to loans and grants from Lånekassa. Please be aware that the grant is not automatically provided with an Erasmus placement, but we are doing our best to ensure that as many students as possible can receive the grant.

The grant is calculated based on fixed daily rates, from the first to the last exam day at the foreign institution. NB! Those going on erasmus+ exchange Autumn 2026 and later semesters will receive grant for maximum 3 months per semester.

The first 70% of the grant is usually paid out in October/March, while the remaining 30% is paid after the exchange period has concluded.

What you MUST DO when going on an Erasmus+ exchange

Everyone participating in an Erasmus exchange must complete the following forms:

Before the exchange period

  1. Grant Agreement: You need to fill out the information on page 1 and sign on page 4. The International Office will then complete the rest, sign it, and send you a copy in return.
  2. Online Learning Agreement (OLA)  is the pre-approval of your academic plan as an exchange student. Here’s how you create and complete your OLA.
  3. Salary and compensation: Fill in your contact details at the top and sign where it says "Issuer's Signature." Remember to fill out all fields marked with an x.

Submission deadline: The Grant Agreement and Salary and Compensation forms must be sent to erasmuspluss@uia.no by 30 June / 30 November.

Upon arrival at the foreign institution

Confirmation of Erasmus+: The form should be completed and signed by the International Office at the host university (not UiA or yourself) upon arrival. Send the form to erasmuspluss@uia.no as soon as it’s signed.

Once all of this is completed, you will receive 70% of the grant.

After the exchange period

  1. Submit the final report: This will be sent to your student email after the exchange has ended.
  2. Submit confirmed end date: Use the Confirmation of Erasmus+ form again. Send the form to erasmuspluss@uia.no as soon as it’s signed.

Once this is done, you will receive the remaining 30% of the grant.

Language Test

You will be offered a free, online language placement test (Online Language Support) before your exchange period. The purpose of the test is to assess your language skills and potentially offer an online language course to those who need or want it.

The test results are not shared with partners and do not impact your eligibility for exchange.

The test is not mandatory, but we recommend it as language preparation.

Grants and rate

The grant rate will vary from year to year, and the size of the grant depends on whether you are traveling to a high-cost country or a low-cost country. The rates are calculated from date to date, meaning if you are on exchange for 3 months and 10 days, you will receive a grant for those days.

Mobility for regular studies (2 to 12 months)

Rates for 2024

  • €530 per month for Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
  • €470 per month for other European countries in Erasmus+.

Traineeship mobility

Rates for 2024

  • €680 per month for Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Sweden.
  • €620 per month for other European countries in Erasmus+.

Short-term mobility (5 to 30 days)

In some cases, it is possible to receive a grant for mobility of less than 2 months. This applies if you are going on an exchange in a course that falls under the definition of 'blended mobility.' This means you are taking a course where parts are conducted online, and there is also a physical exchange. Physical short-term mobility (studies and traineeship) must be a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 60 days.

In these cases, the grant for 2024 is €79 per day for the first 14 days, then €56 per day. We use a fixed exchange rate between euros and kroner, which is set when we receive the grant funds from the EU Commission.

Contact erasmuspluss@uia.no if you have any questions about short-term mobility.

Additional grant

Erasmus+ aims to provide equal opportunities for everyone. Students who need special arrangements can receive an additional grant of €250 per month. You may be eligible for the additional grant if you have:

  • Children under 18 years old,
  • Disabilities and/or chronic illnesses,
  • Refugee status.

Contact erasmuspluss@uia.no if you are unsure whether you qualify for the additional grant.

Green Travel

A journey is considered "green" when the main part of the journey takes place using low-emission modes of transport, such as bus, train, or carpooling.

If you travel green to reach your study destination abroad, you can apply for a 'green grant' of €50.

Internships with Erasmus+ grant as part of your studies

It is possible to apply for an Erasmus+ grant for internships that are approved as part of your studies at UiA.

Examples of internships include working at embassies and foreign stations.

The internship must last for a minimum of 60 days.

Contact erasmuspluss@uia.no for more information about the programme.

Erasmus+ internships after graduation

It is possible to apply for support for internships after completing your education. The criteria are that:

  • The internship must be conducted within the first year after graduation/completion of your degree.
  • You must apply while you are still an active student at UiA.

If you are offered an internship or job, you can apply for an Erasmus+ grant. The application deadline is 1 June.

Look for announcements at www.erasmusintern.org. Contact erasmuspluss@uia.no for questions and applications.
