About the research group
POTIS is an intellectual meeting place for exploring philosophy and organizational theory in information systems research. The group is united by theoretical interests that cut across specific application domains and technological trends.
We aim to create an open scholarly environment with room for creativity, deep reflection and ideas that challenge established ways of thinking. Our ambition is high-quality research and meaningful theoretical contributions. Publications are understood as outcomes of a vibrant scholarly community with sustained theoretical engagement.
Research approach
The group welcomes diverse philosophical and theoretical traditions: classical and contemporary, analytic and continental, critical and interpretive. We also draw on ideas beyond the established philosophical canon when they offer new ways of understanding information systems and organizing.
Careful thinking, conceptual experimentation and theoretical depth are central to our work. Research may have practical implications, but its value cannot be reduced to immediate usefulness. Reflection, difficult questions and scholarly disagreement are important drivers of inquiry.
Activities and collaboration
POTIS provides a forum for open academic dialogue, critical debate and collective reflection. The group supports:
- Seminars and workshops to develop research ideas, theory and manuscripts.
- Academic events at UiA and collaboration across departments, faculties and research groups.
- International networking, visiting researchers and contributions to conferences and scholarly journals.
- Thematic discussions and social gatherings that support members' intellectual and philosophical development.
Our long-term ambition is to develop POTIS into a European hub for scholarly debate and theory development. The group also aims to apply for funding through the Scheme for National Researcher Schools or a similar programme.
