Department of Mathematical Sciences

The institute offers one-year studies, bachelor’s, and master’s programs in mathematics and is responsible for mathematics teaching in several programs outside the institute.

About the Department

The institute provides mathematics education in all of the university’s teacher training programs: early childhood education, primary school teacher education (grades 1-7 and 5-10), practical pedagogical education, and secondary school teacher education (grades 8-13). We offer a wide range of continuing and further education opportunities for mathematics teachers.

In addition, the institute offers master’s and PhD programs in mathematics education, alongside one-year studies, bachelor’s, and master’s programs in mathematics. We are also responsible for mathematics courses in bachelor’s programs for economics, bioengineering, and biology.

MERGA (Mathematics Education Research Group at Agder) is a research center dedicated to exploring and enhancing mathematical thought processes across all educational levels.

Our mission is to advance innovative mathematics teaching and learning from early childhood through higher education.
