Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems

Differential equations and dynamical systems form a major field of research in mathematics, focusing on the study of complex systems and their evolution over time. Our work lies at the intersection of pure and applied mathematics, with far-reaching applications across a range of scientific disciplines. The group’s members pursue diverse areas of research.

Research Focus

Our group specialises in the study of differential equations and dynamical systems, two closely intertwined fields that provide powerful tools for modelling and analysing real-world phenomena. We explore a broad array of topics, including:

  • Ordinary and partial differential equations: We investigate the properties, solutions, and asymptotic behaviour of both linear and non-linear differential equations.
  • Dynamical systems theory: Our research delves into the qualitative analysis of systems described by differential equations, with a focus on long-term behaviour, stability, and chaos.
  • Stochastic analysis: We work with stochastic partial differential equations, rough paths, and Malliavin calculus, bridging the gap between deterministic and probabilistic approaches.
  • Mathematical modelling: We develop and analyse models for various phenomena in physics, biology, and engineering.
  • Ergodic theory: We study the recurrence properties of measure-preserving dynamical systems and apply them to combinatorial number theory.
