Waste sorting
By sorting your waste, you help limit the extraction of natural resources and ensure that existing raw materials have a longer lifespan. Consider all the new products hidden within our waste. Our environmental stations are centrally located in several places on both campuses. If you're unsure about proper sorting, look for the waste symbol on the packaging or check sortere.no for guidance. More information on waste management at UiA can be found on the information page about waste handling and sorting.
Transport and travel
By walking, cycling, or using public transport, you contribute to reduced emissions. Both campuses are equipped for cycling with designated bike parking and locker room facilities. If you must choose a car, remember that carpooling is better than driving alone. For business trips, follow UiA's travel policy and use the "Travel Smart" guidelines during planning.
Food and drink
By using your own thermos or porcelain for coffee, you help reduce the number of single-use cups. When purchasing food in the cafeteria, request take-away boxes and utensils only if needed. Both the student and staff cafeterias offer vegetarian options; choosing these helps reduce emissions. Opt for vegetarian alternatives for meeting meals. Besides food choices, it's crucial to work towards reducing food waste. Avoid ordering more food than necessary and develop good routines for handling leftovers.
Energy use
At UiA, we continuously work on energy efficiency through automated lighting and ventilation. While your direct contribution may be limited, you can still help by remembering to close windows and turn off lights (where not automated) when leaving a room. Try to keep indoor temperatures to 22 degrees in winter, as higher temperatures demand more energy consumption.
Used books
Do you have books you no longer need? Donate them to our reuse shelves located outside the library on both campuses. Hopefully, someone else will benefit from your old books, and perhaps you'll find a book for yourself there too.
Paper use
Aim to work paper-free as much as possible and print only when necessary. Print double-sided to save paper.
