QiA – Queer Research Agder

QiA is an open and interdisciplinary forum at the University of Agder (UiA) that brings together researchers, PhD research fellows, staff and students with an interest in queer issues.

The forum works to strengthen the academic community, raise the profile of queer research and facilitate collaboration across academic disciplines. Through regular meetings and events, QiA aims to contribute to professional development, the sharing of experiences and increased research activity.

QiA is based at UiA – Centre for Gender and Equality, which plays a coordinating role. The forum is organised as a flexible meeting place where the content and structure are developed in line with the participants’ needs and initiatives.

It is open to researchers, PhD students, administrative staff and students at UiA, with a focus on research, professional development and collegial support.

A key function is to create a stimulating space for the development of ideas, reflection and feedback at various stages of the research process.

The forum will:

  • Meet regularly, normally once a month, with rotating responsibility for academic content.
  • Strive to organise activities at both the Kristiansand and Grimstad campuses.
  • Emphasise inclusive practices, including through the deliberate use of both Norwegian and English where appropriate, to ensure broad participation.
  • Explore collaboration with relevant academic initiatives and networks at local, national and international levels.
  • Strengthen existing initiatives, develop new research projects, lay the groundwork for grant applications and encourage recruitment within queer studies.

Activities will vary and may include short academic talks, presentations of ongoing work, reading groups, working meetings and informal discussions.
