Expert assessment

Before candidates for teaching and research positions are invited to an interview, an expert evaluation of their academic qualifications is conducted. This assessment compares the candidates' qualifications against the job posting and other formal requirements.

Teaching and research positions

The appointment and promotion of teaching and research positions shall occur after expert evaluation. This is regulated in the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges of 01.08.24 (only in Norwegian) and in the Regulations to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges (only in Norwegian) issued by the Ministry of Education and Research on 01.08.24.

An expert Assessment Committee shall evaluate each applicant’s professional qualifications in relation to the requirements stated in the job advertisement and/or any other formal requirements to the position. The Committee shall furthermore compare qualified applicants.

The objective of the assessment is to enable the appointing employer to evaluate the sum of the applicant’s qualifications. It is important to consider both the applicant’s qualifications with regards to general professional knowledge and experience, as well as specialised fields of expertise.  Only documented results will be considered in the assessment.

It is the task of The Division of Human Resources to communicate the applicant’s documentation to the members of the Assessment Committee. When the evaluation of the Assessment Committee is completed, it is to be sent onwardsto the applicants. Applicants are then given the opportunity to react with comments within two weeks.

Postdoctoral fellows and research fellows

Appointments to a position as Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Fellow are regulated in Regulations to the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges (only in Norwegian) At the University of Agder, any appointment as a postdoctoral Fellow must furthermore be assessed by a committee of experts as according to the process described above.

For appointments as Research Fellow, usually a Recommendation Committee is created instead of an expert Assessment Committee. More information on this process can be found in the procedure description for Research Fellow positions.
