Records management

According to the Archives Act, public sector organisations must store documents relating to their core activities in a suitable case and archive system. In principle, case documents are public unless exempted by law or pursuant to law.

UiA complies with the requirements of the Public Administration Act regarding due process and the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act regarding transparency in administration and access to information. UiA must maintain a journal, which is a continuous record of incoming and outgoing documents. Journal entries should be made on an ongoing basis. It is important that both journalists and others have access to the administration's records for the principle of openness to be realised. The obligation to maintain records is regulated in the Archives Act and the Archives Regulations.

What is important to preserve for posterity? It's not practical to keep everything, so we need some criteria for what we choose to archive. Read more under What is worth archiving?
