How to create an examination

In WISEflow, the exam is organized as a "flow" – a complete exam process from creation to grading. You, as the course coordinator, are responsible for entering the exam question into the system.

Examination – written school exam

WISEflow has several FLOW types for written school exams. In dialogue with the Examination Office, you clarify which type suits the exam:

  • FLOWlock: PDF-based exam text with long-text answers.
  • FLOWmulti: Mixed question types, for example multiple choice. Normally conducted in a locked environment with Lockdown Browser.

You will receive an email from WISEflow when you are added as an author on the exam. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.

Log in to WISEflow and select the Author tab to create and edit the exam. The procedure depends on the chosen FLOW type.

Authoring

In some cases, it may be appropriate to conduct the exam without Lockdown Browser. Then you can use Device Monitor, which monitors the students' computers (takes screenshots). This applies, among other things, when using third-party systems.

If you want the students to use Excel or other third-party applications during the exam, please contact the Examination Office.

Examination – home exam

WISEflow has two FLOW types for home exams and assignment submissions:

  • FLOWassign: The student uploads the answer as a PDF.
  • FLOWhandin: The student can submit multiple file types, such as PDF, Word, Excel, audio, and video.

For home exams with a distributed assignment, the course coordinator must upload the assignment text as a PDF, and connect it to the FLOW created by the examination office.

Written standard and permitted aids

As a general rule, the examination question must be available in both Norwegian written standards (Bokmål and Nynorsk). Courses taught in English are exempt from this requirement.

  • Fagpersonweb shows whether any students use Nynorsk.
  • FLOWlock: Include the examination question in both written standards in the same PDF document.
  • Permitted aids must be clearly specified on the front page of the examination question. This also applies to dictionaries. If additional material is to be distributed, the Examination Office must be notified well in advance of the examination.
  • The Examination Office does not take responsibility for checking calculators.

Censorship guidelines

The censorship guidelines can be uploaded to WISEflow simultaneously with the preparation of the examination.

The censorship guidelines will be available to any co-examiners during the grading period. Students will have access to the guidelines after the grading has been completed.

Written censorshipguidelines must be available for the assessment of all exams at UiA, cf. the regulations on study programs and exams at UiA § 37.6.

  • The censorship guidelines are intended to ensure the institution’s obligation to conduct academically sound and impartial assessments, as well as to secure the academic level of the study program. Additionally, it is important to prepare good guidelines with regard to examiners who have not taught the subject themselves, as well as to ensure consistent grading in case of appeals.
  • Censorship guidelines should normally be prepared at the same time as the examination.
  • The course responsible is responsible for ensuring that censorship guidelines are prepared. The guidelines shall be prepared either by one internal and one external examiner, or by two internal examiners.
