Forms and guidance
How to make use of KFU
Funds in a KFU account must be used for expenses related to the research and development of the employee holding the account. Examples of this are:
- Courses and conferences
- Academic and scientific equipment
- Investing in the necessary tools for work
- Travels related to research and development
- Delayed research sabbatical
*Equipment purchased with KFU funds cannot be of a nature that provides private benefit, thereby triggering tax liability.
Please note that the university's procedures for procurement must be followed – even when costs are covered by funds allocated to the KFU account. All purchases covered by KFU funds are the property of the university.
It is possible to cover similar expenses for others, as long as the purpose of stimulating academic activity and development at UiA is maintained.
The individual employee's proposal for fund allocation is usually decisive, but the budgetary authority at the faculty has the formal right of disposition.
KFU funds should be used on an ongoing basis. If you are planning major academic initiatives and therefore wish to save funds in your KFU account, you must present a simple written plan to the faculty leadership. Complete the KFU Report Form for amounts exceeding 50,000 NOK if there is a prolonged period of inactivity on your account.*
You are not allowed to use KFU for
- Having funds paid out as salary or using the funds for private purposes
- Keeping equipment paid for with funds from your KFU account
- Bringing funds with you when leaving UiA
-
Using the account for purposes in conflict with UiA’s social responsibility, the purpose of KFU, the government’s financial regulations and the university’s internal primary regulations for financial management.
Earnings
The transfer of funds to KFU must always be agreed upon directly between you and your faculty. This may include funds from the framework budget and special allocations for research and academic development that you can manage independently.
If you exceed the expectations of your position in areas such as teaching, supervision, and examination grading, you may arrange for a productivity bonus to be transferred to your KFU account, cf. the Productivity Agreement (in Norwegian).
Incentive funds, such as the teaching award and publication support granted by the faculty, can also be transferred to KFU.
The following can not be transferred to KFU:
- Work that has been imposed on you beyond your regular work plan where no agreement has been made (overtime or delayed work hours)
- Salary/honorariums for tasks done by other units at UiA, for example tasks for PULS, contributions to courses, seminar and similar.
- Salary/honorariums for tasks done together with other parties than UiA as employer, or tasks the employee has done as their own employer.
