Insurance

Here is an overview of the most important insurance policies that apply to employees at UiA. Chapter 4 of the government's personnel handbook (in Norwegian only) has a more detailed description of the provisions that apply.

Note: It is a prerequisite for most of these insurances that you are a member of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme.

See the page about travel insurance.

Occupational injury insurance

Employees at UiA are covered by the occupational injury insurance under the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). The insurance covers occupational injury and occupational illness according to specific conditions laid out for injuries that have occurred during work, at the workplace and during working hours.

Employees who are covered by the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service are also covered by the rules in the agreement's joint provisions on benefits in the event of occupational injury. The person who is injured is entitled to compensation according to the rules that provide the best overall compensation.

Life insurance

Employees at UiA are covered by group life insurance under the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund which ensures survivors a lump sum in the event of the employee's death.

The group life scheme is not part of the member's rights under the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund but part of the wage conditions for employees covered by the Basic Collective Agreement for the Civil Service. The scheme, therefore, largely applies to all government employees, including temporary employees and part-time employees who have fixed weekly working hours.

The size of the insurance amount is linked to the national insurance basic amount (G).

Compensation for loss of private property while performing a service

According to the rules, it is possible for government employees to receive up to NOK 20,000 in compensation in the event of damage to, or loss of, private property in connection with the service being carried out. See provisions in the Government's personnel handbook point 10.22 (in Norwegian only).

Insurance against loss of UiA's assets

The government is a self-insurer. This means that units at UiA are not normally required to take out special insurance policies and must cover any loss or theft of equipment from their own funds.

It is possible, in special cases, to take out insurance policies. This is applicable, for example, if you bring expensive technical equipment for use in dangerous situations or to countries that are particularly prone to theft.
