Temperature
There are no fixed temperature limits set by law or regulations, but the Labour Inspection Authority recommends maintaining a temperature below 22°C for light indoor work during heating periods. Temperatures below 19°C or above 26°C should be avoided. At the Kristiansand campus, an agreement with Statsbygg stipulates that the temperature in office workspaces during the winter months is set to 22°C, with employees having the ability to adjust the heat up and down.
The workplace should, if necessary, be shielded against radiant heat (e.g., from heat processors or the sun) and draughts. It is not permitted to use freestanding heaters without permission from the building owner due to fire risk and the potential negative impact on the heating and ventilation system.
As the perception of the right working temperature varies among employees, an individual option for temperature regulation is sought.
Individual employees can do much to improve the temperature at their own workplace:
- Dress appropriately for the season/temperature.
- Stay physically active by taking short breaks during the workday.
- Close the office door that faces common areas.
Air quality
Good air quality can be ensured through effective ventilation which provides clean outdoor air. Ventilation systems that are maintained and clean is important for air quality, and it is important to have good routines for regular ventilation system inspections. Daily cleaning and yearly large-scale cleaning of the premises is important due to paper dust.
Campus Services is responsible for the ventilation system.
Lighting conditions
The lighting system should provide appropriate and effective illumination for employees, without causing disturbing glare or reflections. Indoor lighting conditions are checked annually as part of safety rounds.
The responsible party for any necessary improvements in lighting conditions within our organisation is Campus Services.
Noise
To prevent hearing damage, noise levels in the workplace are regulated.
The mapping and documentation of noise levels, along with an analysis of health and safety risks related to noise, are integral to the systematic work on health, safety and the environment (HSE) within the organisation.
The employer must ensure that safety representatives and employees exposed to noise receive training on safe working methods to reduce exposure and the risk of health damage, as well as in the use of protective equipment.
Smoke-free work environment
At the University of Agder, a smoke-free work environment is maintained. Smoking indoors and near entrances is prohibited. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas.
