Employees in technical/administrative positions have flexible working hours (flexitime). This means that you can decide at what time during the day you will be working, following the standard number of working hours of 37.5 hours per week and these conditions:
- Core time is from 09:00 to 14:30. During this period you must be present.
- Flexitime is the period outside of core time, from 07:00 to 20:00. During this period, you can choose when to start and end your work day.
This arrangement does not apply to employees in facility management and cleaning, as well as some in front desk services.
Accruing working hours and compensatory time off
You can accrue working hours which can then be used as compensatory time off work with permission from your immediate superior.
- Excess hours: Hours worked during flexitime and core time that exceeds the regular 7.5 hour work day are registered as excess hours. Up to 45 excess hours can be transferred from one settlement period to the next. Accrued excess hours beyond 45 hours are deleted at the end of every settlement period.
- Deficit hours: If you work less than 7.5 hours a day during flexitime and core time, this will be registered as deficit hours. Deficit hours beyond 10 hours, at the end of every settlement period, are counted as illegitimate absence and will be deducted from salary.
The settlement period can be determined by each individual faculty/department/division. If nothing else has been determined, the settlement period at UiA is 1 January to 31 December.
