Home office for technical/administrative employees

The guidelines for home office address both the employer's and the employee's needs and is based on regulations concerning work performed in the employee's home. They apply to employees in technical and administrative positions, while academic employees have greater freedom to choose their workplace.

  • Home office can be applicable for 1–2 workdays per week.
  • Agreements are made for periods of 6 to 12 months.
  • Remember that occasional work from home can be agreed directly with your immediate supervisor without a formal agreement, allowing for flexibility in daily life.

Main rules for home office:

A written agreement for a home office is considered in each individual case and is neither a right nor an obligation for employees. The immediate supervisor decides whether to establish a home office agreement, in dialogue with the employee regarding needs, tasks, scope, and the work environment at home and on campus.

Tasks should be manageable from home, and consideration should be given to work and activities requiring presence on campus. The supervisor may call for work on campus when necessary. Working from home should be marked in calendars, or otherwise be clear to colleagues, students, and others regarding your whereabouts.

Work must be able to meet requirements for a proper work environment and information security. UiA may cover some basic equipment (keyboard, mouse) by special arrangement. Furniture, internet access, etc., are normally covered by the employee. Insurance policies, such as occupational injury insurance, also apply at home while working.
