General description and profile of the programme
Philosophy can be seen as the study of the foundation of our reality, knowledge, argumentation and ethical choices.
Applied philosophy is philosophy with a particular focus on the possibilities for application on practical and theoretical issues.
The bachelor's programme in applied philosophy gives broad knowledge of philosophy as a subject and its application on ethics, religion, psychology, economics and society. The major in philosophy (90 ECTS) consists of six survey courses on level 1 and three courses on level 2, one of which is the bachelor's thesis.
The second year, the minor (60 credits): The students may choose from a variety of relevant studies or course combinations. Choose a one-year study programme (60 credits), two 30 credit course combinations, or one 30 credit course combination and 30 credits free standing courses.

Internationalisation
Most of the prescribed texts, at all levels, are in English. This is the norm in the internationally oriented field of Philosophy. There are few Norwegian textbooks and relevant academic texts on Philosophy. Two courses on level 2 are taught in English when international students register for the courses.
We encourage all our students to take their minor subject (60 credits) abroad. UiA makes this possible through our established mobility programs.
