Universal design at UiA

Universal design is the design of products, services and environments where the focus is on human diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all. It considers variations in people's functional abilities, aiming to create solutions that are accessible to as many people as possible.

UiA seeks to be an open and inclusive university that is characterised by a culture of collaboration. Knowledge is successfully co-created when staff, students and the larger community challenge each other. UiA aims to ensure access to higher education regardless of gender and sexual orientation, ethnicity, socio-economic background, functional ability or place of residence.

Coordination of universal design at UiA

Margret Kristin Dyrholm is UiA's universal design coordinator and oversees the implementation of the Action Plan for Universal Design and Accessibility. The coordinator can provide assistance in areas that concern universal design as well as relevant legislation and regulations. The coordinator also handles inquiries, both proactively and upon request, from students, staff memebers and partners.

The coordinator is responsible for sharing information about legislation, regulations, reports to the Storting, propositions, and information channels in the field, for example from the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills (HK-dir) and the Norwegian Directorate for Children, Youth and Family Affairs (BufDir) and other stakeholders that UiA collaborates with on universal design. The coordinator role is situated in the Section for Internationalisation, Admissions and Learning Environment, within the Division of Academic Affairs.
