Physical accommodations

Physical accessibility accommodations ensure that campus facilities and teaching spaces are accessible and usable in your daily studies.

If you require accommodations for physical accessibility, please submit an application using the online application form and select “adaptation of physical conditions/environments”. UiA Accessibility Service will process your application.

You use the same application form whether you are applying for one or multiple types of accommodations (teaching, learning materials, or physical accessibility).

If you have questions or would like guidance before applying, you can contact UiA Accommodations.

Examples of physical accessibility support

Accommodations for hearing impairments

If you have a hearing impairment, there are several solutions that can make teaching more accessible:

  • Use of a microphone in lectures is important to ensure the sound is clear and accessible. Lecturers are expected to use this.
  • Auditoriums at UiA are usually equipped with a public address system and microphone. In smaller teaching rooms, portable equipment may be used.
  • Sign language interpreters or speech-to-text interpreters are arranged through the NAV Interpretation Service. We recommend contacting them early, as there may be waiting times.

Parking and accessibility on campus

  • Parking: Students with reduced mobility may require adapted transport and parking arrangements. UiA provides accessible (HC) parking spaces near campus buildings for students with a valid parking permit. Temporary accessible parking is also available.

  • Accessibility in buildings: Most UiA buildings are universally designed. To navigate campus, you can use Mazemap, which shows accessible routes to buildings, rooms, and lecture halls.

Quiet / private study space

If, for health reasons, you require a quiet/private study space, UiA provides access to designated study areas. These spaces may be suitable for students who need peace, reduced stimuli, or a more adapted working environment.

Please contact UiA Accessibility Service for guidance and further information.
