If you require accommodations in learning materials, please submit an application using the online application form and select “adapted learning materials” Your application will be processed by your faculty.
You use the same application form whether you are applying for one or multiple types of accommodations (teaching, learning materials, or physical accessibility).
Examples of accessible learning materials include:
- Alternative formats of teaching materials, such as PDFs with enhanced readability
- Providing presentations and materials in advance of lectures
- Adapting documents and files to be universally accessible
- Captioning of teaching videos
If you have questions or would like guidance before applying, you can contact your student adviser.

Accommodations that do not require an application
There are many ways to make learning materials more accessible. In many cases, needs can be met using commonly available technology and tools. No application is required for these adjustments.
Audiobooks
If you need audiobooks, there are several options:
Tibi
Tibi is a library providing adapted literature for children, young people, and adults who have difficulties reading printed text. Students who, due to a disability or illness, need audiobooks or adapted texts can apply directly to become a Tibi borrower. Registration and use are managed directly by the student via the website tibi.no
Create your own audiobooks
If you need audiobooks or digital versions of course materials, you do not apply for this as an individual accommodation at UiA. These solutions are not part of the official accommodations scheme and are therefore not processed through the accommodation application form. Many needs can still be met using commonly available technology and open-access services.
Contact UiA Accessibility Service if you would like guidance on the options available and how to use them.
Examples:
- If you have a physical book, you can scan pages with a smartphone or scanner and have the text read aloud digitally. The read-aloud function in Word and various AI tools can also be used to have text read aloud, making it easier to work with course materials.
- Many textbooks are available as e-books and audiobooks, which can make it easier to listen to the material if needed. Check with your bookshop or course literature provider for available formats.
Information sessions
UiA Accessibility Service also arranges regular information sessions where you can receive guidance on using common technology to support your studies. This can be especially useful for students with reading/writing difficulties or dyslexia.
Support tools in Canvas
Canvas offers several digital tools that can support your studies. They can be useful for all students, and especially for those who require accommodations.
