4. While you are abroad

As an UiA student, you are obliged to keep up with Canvas and your UiA email, also during your exchange studies abroad.

Semester registration

  • Register your semester address in StudentWeb as soon as you have secured accommodation at the exchange destination.
  • All exchange students must pay the semester fee to UiA in the usual way.
  • Confirm your study plan in StudentWeb. If there is an option to select the 'Utvekslingsopphold 30 sp' plan element, do so.

The courses you take at the exchange institution will be added to your records at UiA after the exchange is completed, and once you have submitted your transcript from the exchange institution.

Withdraw from any exams you might be registered for at UiA. ('Exam registration overview - cancel registration'.)

Changes to the approved study plan

It is not unusual that students need to make changes to a pre-approved study plan early in the exchange period. All changes must be approved by your department's contact person at UiA. If you make changes without receiving approval from UiA, you risk not getting full credit for the courses you have taken.

Safety and preparedness

Remember to download Reiseklar (in Norwegian), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' app for travel information, travel advice and travel registration before you go on exchange.

Do you consider dropping out of your exchange?

It is quite common to feel uncertain in the early days of an exchange. For most people, this feeling quickly passes. It takes time to get to know a new country and a new culture. However, if you still wish to interrupt the exchange or need to end the exchange for other reasons, first contact the International Office at both the host university and UiA. If you decide to end your exchange, you are obligated to inform us. Also, if you decide to drop out of the exchange before departure, you must inform us.
