About the partner institution
The university is located near one of the municipality's 328 lakes in the lively student city of Jyväskylä, which has a population of approximately 140,000.
Jyväskylä was founded in 1837 by Tsar Nicholas I, and the area is known for rich archaeological finds from the Stone Age, and for being the city in the world with the most buildings designed by the world-famous Finnish functionalist architect Alvar Aalto.
The university has approximately 15,000 students, many of whom are international students.
The campus is within walking distance of the city center, and there are good sports facilities on campus that all students can use.
UiA is part of a network of European universities, FORTHEM, where the University of Jyväskylä is one of the partners. This means that students in most academic disciplines will have the opportunity for an exchange program there.
