Project description
KODEM (Coordinated Online Panels for Democracy and Governance), led by the University of Bergen (UiB), is a groundbreaking research initiative aimed at establishing a new national infrastructure for social science and interdisciplinary survey research in Norway.
Through KODEM, digital, nationally representative panels are being developed, composed of key societal and governance groups. These include:
- Citizen Panel
- Public Administration Panel (led by the University of Agder)
- Journalist Panel
- Representative Panel
Purpose and vision
KODEM is designed to become a leading tool for data collection and analysis in the social sciences. The project facilitates:
- Methodologically advanced data collection, including experimental designs and longitudinal studies.
- Coordinated data gathering across societal groups – citizens, politicians, public administrators, and journalists.
- Strengthened collaboration between research environments, disciplines, and universities – both nationally and internationally.
After five years, KODEM will transition into a permanent operational phase and become a central pillar in the production of social science data in Norway.
