EQIP Enhancing Quality and Internationalisation of Study Programmes Through Mobile Transformative Pedagogy

Duration
–

Project description

Institutions of higher learning (IHL) are increasingly required to prepare “students for jobs and technologies that don’t yet exist … in order to solve problems that we don’t even know are problems yet” (Fadel, 2008, p.9). To attain this milestone, IHL should transform their curricula and curricula implementation so as to produce employable graduates with 21st Century skills. The graduates should be critical/diverse thinkers, problem solvers, creative innovators, collaborators with ICT and leadership skills, lifelong/self-directed learners, ethical professionals and socially responsible global citizens.

Using internationalised curricula and transformative pedagogy has the potential to produce graduates with transferable skills and competences for meeting future job market requirements (Meyers, 2010). However, most IHL are not adequately equipped with internationalised study programmes and capacity to deliver them in transformative ways.

University of Agder, Makerere University and University of Rwanda will collaborate to review curricula, increase students and staff mobilities & build capacity to produce graduates with international understanding, access to international networks, intercultural competence and other 21st century skills. The focus is on internationalising and transforming teaching and learning methods for “educational sciences” and “ICT” master study programmes that can produce professionals and faculty with the competence to revolutionise education for future jobs. The candidate programmes are: Multimedia & Educational Technology, Instructional Design & Technology, Information Systems, Curriculum & Instruction and Software Engineering. Mobility and credit transfer shall be promoted by intersecting courses; master projects; work placements; joint teaching and supervision. The project results shall include 45 student & 13 staff mobilities, 14 reviewed courses, 30 faculty trained in transformative pedagogy, and strengthened professional relationships among partner universities.
