Responsible digitalisation in the public sector (ReDigit)

The research group focuses on responsible digitalisation in the public sector, exploring the relationship between humans and digitalisation from multiple perspectives. We understand responsible digitalisation as digitalisation that is perceived as fair and inclusive, contributing to an open, democratic, and sustainable society.

Key questions we address include: How do digital solutions impact both citizens and public sector employees? How can we ensure that ethical considerations and citizens’ rights are upheld when digitalising public services, automating decision-making processes, and developing decision-support tools for employees? How can digital solutions foster trust, enhance user participation, and reduce social exclusion?

The research group is closely linked to a collaboration agreement between the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Organisation Nav and the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Agder focusing on responsible digitalisation within Nav.

With the research group, we aim to:

  • Understand the consequences of digitalisation in the public sector on different stakeholders in the society
  • Develop suggestions for how digitalisation in the public sector can happen re-sponsibly
  • Raise awareness for the topic of responsible digitalisation in the public sector
  • Contribute to the academic and societal discourse on responsible digitalisation in the public sector
