PhD Contract

Admission to a PhD programme requires the completion of a formal contract that outlines rights and obligations of the PhD candidate, the supervisor(s), and the faculty. The PhD contract must be completed and signed by all relevant parties as soon as the admission decision has been finalised. The contract regulates the responsibilities and expectations during the PhD period and facilitates progress toward completion within the agreed timeframe. The completed PhD contract must be submitted to the PhD co-ordinator responsible for the relevant programme.

Where a PhD candidate receives funding from, is employed by, or otherwise receives contributions from an external party, a separate agreement must be entered into between the candidate, the University, and the external party.

Where a PhD candidate will be affiliated with foreign institutions, the University’s guidelines for such collaboration must be followed, and separate agreements must be entered into using the prescribed forms. The agreement(s) shall normally be in place at the same time as the PhD agreement.
