Podcasts have become increasingly popular, both in teaching and in communication. Many people have called for more recording options, and several have also requested video as well as audio.
"I believe we are the first among Norwegian higher education institutions to have a self-service studio like this, with automatic publishing", says Rolf Sigurd Løvland from the Media Services Section of the IT Department. In early September, he cut the ribbon for the studio, which is located in the University Library at Campus Kristiansand.
"If there’s one word that describes this room, I think it has to be ‘inviting’,” added Morten Rosenvinge from the same section.
Productive conversations
UiA already has several self-service studios. Some of these are designed to enable lecturers to record lectures. The video podcast studio, on the other hand, is tailor-made for productive conversations.
There is room for four people around the table, and you can connect as many guests as you like via Zoom.
“The advantage of the studio being self-service is that it’s easy to get started. You can try out recording on your own at your own pace. Nothing is visible to others until you choose to publish it yourself. This provides reassurance for those who will be using the room,” says Løvland.
How to get started
For a thorough introduction to how the studio works, you can find both video tutorials and answers to frequently asked questions on the intranet. PULS will also be on hand to provide guidance if you would like a more in-depth introduction.
The video podcast studio at Campus Grimstad opened in June last year.
“Since the start of the academic year this autumn, we’ve had around one booking a day in Grimstad, and there’s still capacity available,” says Løvland.
He believes the studio in Kristiansand will be just as popular, if not even more so.
The studio can be used by anyone with a UiA card who has logged into the Panopto video service. External participants can join in person or via Zoom.
