Background and experience
I completed my PhD in mathematics education in 2020 from UiA. Soon after, I started working as an Associate Professor in mathematics education. Prior to PhD, I taught mathematics at lower and upper secondary school levels for five years. The details are given below.
2020: PhD in Mathematics Education, University of Agder. Thesis title: Dynamics of undergraduate engineering students' learning activities in an online and a blended environment
2015: M.Phil in Mathematics. Thesis title: Analytical solutions for the flow of viscoelastic fluids with convective heating
2013: B.Ed (One-year course in teacher education)
2007: M.Sc in Mathematics
2005: B.Sc (Mathematics and Physics)
2007–2012: Mathematics teacher for GCE O-Level and lower secondary classes
2012–2013: Lecturer in mathematics at bachelor level
Teaching
Currently, I am teaching research methodology to the group of pre-service mathematics lecturers (MA-455) and quantitative methods to PhD research fellows in mathematics education (MA-607). Previously, I have taught courses in mathematics and didactics of mathematics.
Research
I am interested in, and currently researching on:
- Issues related to teaching and learning of calculus concepts
- Eye-tracking methodology to explore students' learning and engagement
- In an ongoing project, we are looking at how undergraduate and upper secondary school use visualizations in their covariational reasoning.
- Teaching of mathematical modelling
- A project is in progress in which we are exploring teachers' experiences and practices regarding teaching of mathematical modeling in schools.
- Applying quantitative research approaches where appropriate.
