Sexual harassment

Where is the borderline between joking and harassment? A pat on the back or a smack on the butt? How much should you allow?

Sexual harassment is legally prohibited, and the employer is responsible that you as an employee is not subject to sexual harassment at work. Still, it is revealed by Statistics Norway’s survey on living conditions that four per cent of all employees aged 18-66 report that they have been subject to unwanted sexual attention, comments and similar. We see that some occupations are more vulnerable than others and that women are more exposed to sexual harassment than men. Sometimes the person who is doing the harassment fails to understand the seriousness of the situation, while in other instances there is an asymmetrical power relationship involved which may lead to the person being harassed being afraid to let others know. Fortunately, as a consequence of the #metoo – movement in 2017, we see a marked increase in the number of people who report harassment. The # metoo – movement has led to increased consciousness of sexual harassment as a problem in society.

Courses

We wish to prevent sexual harassment by increasing the competence of the individual employee, as well as to provide leaders and employers with the tools to both prevent harassment and implement measures through our course ‘Let’s talk – about sexual harassment’. Please contact us for a non-binding offer of workshops, seminars or courses on sexual harassment.

MA scholarships

We announce scholarships to UiA students who will write their theses on themes related to equality and diversity. We need more knowledge about sexual harassment, and therefore wish that more students write their theses within this research area. Read more about MA – scholarships here.
