Adopted by the University Board on 17 October 2017
The research group should provide a good platform for research, both in terms of traditional academic research and artistic research. It should contribute to the academic development of students, doctoral candidates, individual researchers and the group as a whole. The group centres on a shared overarching research theme.
The research group engages in shared activities such as seminars, project development, publishing, dissemination and proposal writing.
Based on its thematic orientation and level of ambition, a long-term plan is developed for the group. This plan should outline the group's research focus, project portfolio, potential funding sources, preferred channels for publishing and dissemination, recruitment strategy and career development for members. The plan should specify which criteria (KPIs) the research group wishes to be assessed by after a given period, according to its objectives. The criteria can be set based on what the group considers the most important indicators.
A research group should consist of at least five academic staff members at UiA, including at least one professor and should involve doctoral candidates. It is expected that research groups engage students. The group may also include researchers from other departments and faculties, as well as members employed by institutions outside UiA.
A research group is led by an academic staff member with research competence equivalent to a doctoral degree.
The group can manage funds in consultation with the faculty leadership.
The establishment of new research groups and the termination of existing ones must be decided at the faculty level.
To be featured as a research group on UiA's international website, the group must demonstrate regular publishing and progress. The dissemination of UiA's ongoing research activity should be current and realistic at both national and international levels.
