Are you considering using AI tools that are not on the list of approved AI resources at UiA?

At UiA, we continuously assess AI resources that may be relevant to staff and students. On this page, you will find an overview of resources that have either been approved with reservations or not approved.

Please note that AI tools at UiA are assessed from a security perspective. The quality of the results may vary depending on the area of application. You must assess for yourself how suitable the tools are for your purposes. No AI tool is perfect or 100% accurate.

Tools that have been approved with reservations may be used in your own work, subject to the reservations described for each individual resource. UiA does not provide access to these tools, but staff may set up their own accounts. These tools may not be designated as mandatory for use in teaching and student work..

Perplexity

Perplexity is an AI-based search assistant that combines conversational search with source references. It can also be used for image generation. .

Approved with the following reservation:

The free version stores user data and should therefore not be used at UiA. The paid Enterprise Pro version provides adequate data protection and is approved.
Log in using a personal Google account.

Midjourney

Midjourney is an AI image generator.

Approved with the following reservations:

Google Gemini

Google Gemini is Google’s language model and chatbot.

Approved with the following reservations:

Gemini is approved for green data, as the service may share data with third parties.
Log in using a personal Google account.

ChatGPT (Plus)

ChatGPT (Plus) is OpenAI’s language model, featuring image generation, file uploads and advanced conversation flow.

Approved with the following reservations:

The free version stores all user data and is not approved. The paid Plus version is approved. Users are required to manually disable "Improve the model for everyone" in the settings.
ChatGPT Plus is approved for green data.
Create a private OpenAI account or log in using a personal Google account.

Not approved

DeepSeek

DeepSeek does not offer adequate privacy protection and shall not be used on devices owned by UiA. If you need to use DeepSeek for research purposes, specialist equipment must be assigned in advance.

Grok

Grok does not offer adequate privacy protection and shall not be used on devices owned by UiA. If you need to use Grok for research purposes, specialist equipment must be assigned in advance.
