A scientific exchange (teacher exchange) must meet certain content requirements (see the Exchange for Academic Staff tab), while the requirements for technical-administrative exchanges are outlined under the Exchange for Technical-Administrative Staff tab.

Please note that academic staff can also take advantage of exchange opportunities intended for technical-administrative staff.

These opportunities are also available to PhD candidates, provided they meet the requirements for the relevant type of exchange.

In some cases, incoming guest lecturers may be eligible for grants from UiA. To qualify, the guest lecturer must come from a European company or organisation (not a university or college) and be invited as a guest lecturer. Otherwise, the same requirements as for exchanges for academic staff apply.

It is important to be aware that an Erasmus staff grant is a travel subsidy and will rarely, if ever, cover all expenses.

Due to the limited number of grants and a significant increase in applications, the following rules will be introduced from the 2024–25 academic year:

  • One grant per employee per academic year (subject to available funds) to ensure broader access.
  • The maximum duration for a grant is one week (7 days).
  • For group exchanges: a maximum of four grants per trip.

Staff Exchange Weeks, External Seminars, and Conferences

The University of Agder regularly receives invitations from partner institutions to participate in Staff Exchange Weeks, internationalisation weeks, and similar events.

This external website provides an overview of various staff exchange opportunities in Europe.

Remember that participation in a Staff Exchange Week or International Week may qualify for an Erasmus+ staff grant.

Exchange for Academic Staff

Teacher Exchange in Europe 2024–2025

A teaching stay is defined as a grant-supported trip for academic staff who travel to teach at one of UiA's Erasmus partners through the Erasmus+ programme. The stay must be a minimum of 2 days and include at least 8 teaching hours.

Grant rates vary depending on the length of the stay and the geographical distance.

For more details, see the HKdir website for teacher exchange information (in Norwegian).

For guidance and questions, feel free to email the International Office: int-office@uia.no.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. You can find the digital application form here.

Exchange for Technical-Administrative Staff

Staff Exchange in Europe 2024–2025

A training stay (Learning) is defined as a grant-supported trip aimed at both academic and technical-administrative staff for training and competence-building through the Erasmus+ programme.

Examples of staff exchange for training stays include:

  • Observation
  • Seminars
  • Workshops
  • Staff training weeks
  • Job shadowing
  • Courses (language courses will be prioritised)

Participation in major conferences, such as EAIE or similar, is not approved as a training stay. Grant funds also cannot be used for staff to travel to (new) partner institutions to establish or maintain institutional collaborations.

There is no requirement for staff exchanges to be with a recipient institution that has an institutional agreement with UiA, but the exchange must last a minimum of 2 days.

Grant rates vary depending on the duration and geographical distance.

For more details, see the Hkdir website for staff exchange information (in Norwegian).

For guidance and questions, feel free to contact the International Office via email at int-office@uia.no.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. You can find the digital application form here.
