Desk, chair and ergonomics

Employees are encouraged to assess their workspace, possibly with the help of a colleague, to check if the desk is too high or low, if the computer is properly positioned and if the chair is correctly adjusted, along with other ergonomic features.

A good ergonomic workspace can never replace the body's need for movement, variation and rest. Vary your sitting position and stretch occasionally to avoid overloading your muscles. Do not sit still for more than an hour at a time.

Workplace assessment

Evaluate and improve your workspace. A workplace assessment should be conducted when:

  • there is a need for special (non-standard) equipment such as side tables, chairs, armrests, etc.
  • there are recurring or complex health challenges

The workplace assessment is carried out by the occupational health service. Read more about this on the dedicated page for the occupational health service.

Ergonomic equipment

In certain situations, ergonomically adapted equipment beyond standard office equipment may be necessary.

Such needs may arise following a workplace assessment, a safety round or a doctor's recommendation.

The health, safety and environment (HSE) manager decides whether equipment should be purchased.
