You are entitled to leave if you are called up for compulsory or voluntary military service, or voluntary service of up to 24 months in international peacekeeping operations.
You also have protection against dismissal during this period and the right to return to your position when you come back.
Before the service begins, you must send a notice to your immediate superior and the payroll department. Do this well in advance of when you are to report for duty and inform them that you wish to continue after the service is completed.
The employer is not required to reinstate you until one month after they have been notified of the date you will return to work.
