General description and profile of the programme
The programme is about the school library as a learning and education arena, information literacy and development of reading strategies using printed and digital fiction and non-fiction text. Important subjects are communication and use of different types of information sources in school.
Teaching and learning methods
The program is designed as Internet-based distance learning over two semesters. There are two public meetings in Kristiansand, one voluntary and one mandatory. Most of the instruction and supervision take place through electronic communication on the learning platform Canvas. Students will be exposed to various forms of instruction on the learning platform, for example screen recording, video and written lectures.
Assessment methods
There will be one differentiated grade awarded in each course. The grade is based on an individual written examination in SK-200, and an individual written in-depth assignment in SK-201. See course descriptions for more information.
Internationalisation
All courses in School Library Science have some international prescribed texts. This is mostly Nordic in School Library Science 1 and 2, and mostly American in School Library Science 3. Sweden and the US are leading countries in the field, and they are included as examples in lectures and literature.
The language of teaching is Norwegian.
Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies
The program provides vocational competence as a school librarian in primary and secondary education. Competence can also be used in the public library, county libraries and academic libraries.
