General description and profile of the programme

Philosophy can be seen as the study of the foundation of our reality, our knowledge, our argumentation and ethical choices. The one-year study of philosophy provides knowledge about philosophy as a subject, and its application on ethics, religion and society. It consists of six courses of 10 credits each, and gives an introduction to specific practical and theoretical issues.

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures and group seminars (see the individual course descriptions).

Assessment methods

The forms of assessment are described in more detail in the individual course descriptions.

Occupational profiles of graduates and access to further studies

The programme is well suited as a supplement to vocational education where one is faced with ethical challenges or has to relate to multicultural environments. The programme is relevant for work in cultural life, publishing and journalism.

The one-year programme can be included in the bachelor's programme Applied Philosophy, and it is possible to apply for a transition to the 2nd year of study. In addition, it can be included as a breadth unit in several bachelor's programmes at UiA.

Student evaluations

Study programme evaluation is conducted annually in the programme committee in accordance with the Quality System, section 4.2. Before the meeting of the study programme committee, the student representative may obtain suggestions and ideas from fellow students.
